5 Most Unique Coffee Shops in Asheville

Thinking about booking a tour but you are live or are visiting Waynesville, Weaverville, Candler, Black Mountain or Hendersonville area. ? That’s okay I still want everyone to experience some amazing shops even if they can’t book a tour or visit downtown Asheville when they are in the area. Here are some of my favorite coffee shops in the Asheville and Western North Carolina Area.

If you have a busy day ahead of you touring Western North Carolina or just getting driving through the city, I got the perfect list for you. As a former Barista and coffee lover I’ve tried just about every Asheville coffee shop across the city and I know the very best coffee shops in Asheville.

Grind

One of Asheville’s first Black-ownwed coffee shops that is in the junction to a coworking space. This coffee shop has a relaxed and comfortable vibe and it’s a good place if you are trying to get work done while drinking a nice cup of coffee. There should be a nice mix of work-friendly tables and comfy, oversized armchairs. The coffee itself is outstanding, and their menu has plenty of options for hot and cold beverages, flavors, and teas. They’ve been ranked the #3 coffee shop in Asheville and if you go there you will see why.

Farewell

Farewell Coffee is in the heart of the South Slope neighbor and is a bright simple cafe with a modern vibe. They have a well-crafted menu with a rotating coffee menu as they carry coffee from Ruby Coffee, Mountain Air, and Anthology. Their menu also features an awesome selection of wine and beer. This is the only shop in Asheville to have a Modbar Espresso Maker which allows for a better interaction between the customer and the barista. This shop is definitely pushing the boundaries of what a local coffee shop should look like even their espresso is served on craft platters made by Stack Woodworking.

Pollen

If you ever wanted to go to a coffee and flower shop Pollen is the place for you. This is the spot you go to for amazing coffee and take your best Instagram photo. Their floral options are perfect for weddings or any special occasion and you can rent out this spot for an event if you need. They carry coffee from one of my favorite roasters Sey based in Brooklyn, NY. Sey focuses on creating dynamic and complex coffee from growing regions from all around the world.

Chill Wave

Now this isn’t a coffee shop in Asheville but you can find their stellar ice coffee in a few shops downtown. You can also purchase their coffee from their website and I would suggest trying their OG concentrate. Their OG concentrate boasts flavor notes of dark chocolate, nuts, and cinnamon. Us can use their concentrate to make iced coffees, lattes, and brunch cocktails. You can also subscribe to a coffee subscription and be sure to check out their website which offers a variety of coffee recipes.

Earthling Coffee + Espresso

Who doesn’t love a coffee shop drive-thru when you need a refreshing beverage on the go. The drive-thru has been around for over three years located off Smokey Park Highway and is a 8x20 hut they built by hand. The name came from to convey the message of Unity. The owners created nearly 5.2 million different flavor combinations and their custom-made drinks can be made with 11 different milk options. Their flavored coffees are made with pure cane sugar and natural flavorings without high fructose corn syrup or dyes. Most drinks are made with diabetics in mind and can be made sugar-free definitely a place to try out just for their flavors.
